I did such script for Maya. wow for what i understand im the only one I'm trying to use only the nursery polygons and face anyway i understand the tutorial ok I WILL turn to the dark side, if there is any equivalent of spline / surface So, shift G, C is the quickiest way to select all faces which lay on the same plane.
XSI has a adjacent selection tool that offsets the selection for ex you have a plane with subdivisions, you select one polygon on the plane and run adjacent edges and it selects every other polygon, making it fast to model holes for example. Does maya have anything like this? Thanks
Or alteast not simpley with 1 button click. In the selection tool options menu, there should be an option called something like "Camera-Based Selection". This should allow you to only select things that are currently visible to you in the viewport. This script does the same thing but on a per-object basis. Normals (or the orientation of the faces) in Blender can be made visible in 2 ways, one way would be with little lines pointing outward from the middle of a face, specifically the face-normals, while it gives us the information we may need, it can be hard to see wrong directed normals on complex geometry and long stretched faces, if you are a bit zoomed out. Often times when using the multi cut tool to add edges to a polygon you end up with poorly aligned vertices. Thankfully there are many ways to fix this. Turn Keep Faces Together on or off when you are extruding, extracting, or duplicating faces to specify whether you want to retain the edges of each individual face or only along the border edges of the selection..
Set the Select Faces With option: To select I'm trying to edit an object's vertices in side ortho view and when I drag select over the vertices it only grabs one side. Now I've gone to settings and toggled backface culling off/on.
Hey I am currently working on a tool in maya and have a need to select each face and measure the surface area of each. Does anyone here have a good idea on how to go about doing that? To be honest I am not sure where to start. Ideally I would like to keep all of the info within a dictionary so it can be easily iterated through. Thanks.

In some other 3D modeling software there is a function that you can choose when you want to select more than one vertex, edges or faces dragging a rectangle to select. Within this function you can select if you just only want to select what you see, per example only the vertices in front on you and not those on the rear side of the model (and all other through the model).
When this option is turned on, Maya automatically turns on the associated attribute in the 2012-10-23 Look at your cylinder from the side, and drag-select the faces on te cap. It will select the cap AND the faces around the cylinder, but not the other side. Then shift + drag only on the edges of the side of the cylinder, it wil toggle the selection of those faces and you'll have only the cap left selected. In the scene view, right-click a polygon mesh and select Face from the marking menu.

Remember to hold Shift while clicking to select multiple faces. Without deselecting anything, drag the manipulator away from the sides.
Thanks.

If there are more "islands" of faces around and those islands are all combined under one object with the one you doing extrude - this "bug" will not happen. (all faces including borderedges) maya tries to create a volume Select the dots in the center of the faces. Select polygon vertices, edges and faces . Set the selection type to multi by doing one of the following: -click a region of the polygon mesh and select Multi from the pop-up menu that appears. Then: Select components on the polygon mesh.
